Cooper Connolly is a promising all-rounder from Australia, who recently in both ODIs and Tests for the Kangaroos. The 21 year old, born in Perth in Western Australia, is being viewed as the future of Australian Cricket Team. He is a batting all-rounder, who bats left-handed and bowls left-arm orthodox spin. Connolly was pushed by his parents to pursue a career in cricket. It was his father’s dream to play for Australia but he could not complete it due to certain circumstances. However, Cooper has realised his father’s dream.

Shane Connolly, the father of Cooper Connolly was extremely delighted when his son got his baggy green from the hands of Simon Katich. On that occasion he said, “We have always been hard on him, so we probably expected more than most from him.” Shane further added, “People would tell us he was going to be ok, but we didn’t believe all the rumours, so we just kept pushing him. We are probably his harshest critics and he understands that.”

Cooper Connolly’s Career So Far

In January 2022, Cooper Connolly captained Australia’s U-19 team in the ICC Under-19 World Cup and later led Western Australia’s U-17 side. He joined Perth Scorchers for the 2022–23 Big Bash League, making his T20 debut on 7 January 2023 and playing a match-winning knock in the final. He debuted in List A cricket for Western Australia in September 2023 and made his first-class debut in March 2024, scoring 90 in the Sheffield Shield final. Connolly earned his maiden Australia call-up in July 2024 for the T20I and ODI series against England and Scotland, debuting in both formats in September. In January 2025, he was named in Australia’s Test squad for the Sri Lanka tour and received his Baggy Green from Simon Katich before the second Test, becoming Australia’s 471st Test cricketer.
