The Indian cricket team was once leading the race to reach the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25, but the story has completely changed over the last four months. Now, the path to reaching the final for Team India for the third consecutive time has become quite difficult. South Africa has already secured a spot in the final, and now only one team between India and Australia will make it to the final.
In the meantime, Cricket Australia has selected the best Test team for 2024, consisting of 11 players from around the world, based on their performances in 2024. Interestingly, only two Australian players have been selected in this list, while three players from England, two each from India and New Zealand, and one player each from Sri Lanka and South Africa are included.
For opening the innings, Cricket Australia has chosen Indian young player Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ben Duckett. At number three, Joe Root is selected, and at number four, Rachin Ravindra, a batting all-rounder, has been chosen. After that, Harry Brook and Kamindu Mendis also make it to this list. As the wicketkeeper, Alex Carey is included, followed by Matt Henry, Jasprit Bumrah, Josh Hazlewood, and Keshav Maharaj.
Under the captaincy of Pat Cummins, Australia has performed strongly in Test cricket this year, but he has not been included in this list. Moreover, for captaincy, Cricket Australia has chosen Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah played 13 Test matches this year, taking 71 wickets and, under his leadership, led India to a memorable win over Australia in the Perth Test.
