Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir has faced significant backlash on social media following a post promoting a fantasy cricket app. Gambhir shared an advertisement for Real11, stating, “Hopefully, India will continue their domination against Bangladesh in T20Is as well. Enjoy the three-match series with Real11official. Share your opinion in a Yes/No and avail instant cash rewards,” on X (formerly Twitter).
This post drew criticism from his followers, who accused him of promoting a “betting app,” pointing out his previous criticisms of former cricketers who endorsed pan masala and betting apps, labeling it as “double standards.”
Earlier, Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy credited Gambhir for boosting his confidence after his all-round performance led the team to an 86-run victory in the second T20I against Bangladesh. Despite a shaky start with the top order struggling during the powerplay, Reddy and Rinku Singh combined for a formidable partnership, scoring 108 runs for the fourth wicket off just 49 balls. Reddy’s explosive innings included seven sixes and four fours, bringing his total to 74 runs off only 34 balls.
Reddy shared, “The conversation we had was smooth; we weren’t under pressure. We didn’t plan for a specific score. We knew the spinner was coming on to bowl, so we decided to take him on.” He added, “I should thank Gautam sir for his confidence in me. He told me to believe in my bowling and to think like a bowler, not just a batsman who can bowl. That really boosted me.”
