Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli may have retired from T20Is, but their careers in white-ball cricket are far from over. Gautam Gambhir, the new head coach of the Indian cricket team, believes that if they maintain their fitness, both players could participate in the 2027 ODI World Cup.
After winning the ICC T20 World Cup, Kohli and Sharma announced their decision to step down from T20Is but expressed their intention to continue playing ODIs and Test cricket. Gambhir shares this optimism and praised the pair’s ability to perform on the big stage.

“They have consistently delivered under pressure and still have plenty of cricket left in them,” Gambhir said at a press conference. “If they maintain their fitness, they could even feature in the 2027 World Cup. Given their caliber, any team would benefit from having them.”
Currently, Sharma and Kohli are focused on the World Test Championship and the ICC Champions Trophy. If they continue their strong form and remain fit, they could indeed make an impact in the 2027 ODI World Cup.
