The Indian squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England, starting next month, has been officially announced. The BCCI Selection Committee has named an 18-member squad. Along with this, India’s new Test captain has also been revealed, as regular skipper Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket earlier this month. Shubman Gill will now lead the team, with his captaincy tenure beginning from this England tour. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been appointed as the vice-captain.
Senior players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and R Ashwin are no longer part of the Test team. Ashwin had announced his retirement during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, while Rohit and Kohli followed suit earlier this month. As a result, the squad features a mix of fresh faces and returning players. Notably, Karun Nair, who is only the second Indian to score a triple century in Test cricket, has made a comeback.
