On 27 February 2023, Williamson achieved the milestone of becoming the all-time leading run-scorer for New Zealand in Test cricket. Widely considered one of the greatest contemporary batsmen and captains produced by New Zealand, he led the team to victory in the 2021 ICC World Test Championship final.

Williamson’s cricket journey began with his first-class debut in December 2007. He captained the New Zealand U-19 team in the 2008 U-19 Cricket World Cup after making his U-19 debut against the Indian U-19 team the same year. Making his international debut in 2010, Williamson has been a stalwart for New Zealand in multiple Cricket World Cups and ICC World Twenty20 editions.
