Pakistan and Dubai jointly hosted the Champions Trophy 2025. Although Pakistan was the official host, the Indian team did not travel to Pakistan due to security concerns. As a result, all of India’s matches were played in Dubai.

This situation indirectly affected the Pakistan cricket team as well. Their performance was disappointing, and they were eliminated from the tournament before the semifinals. Because of this, the final match was not held in Pakistan. Consequently, the Pakistan team is now facing multiple challenges, and their financial situation appears to be worsening.

After the Champions Trophy, Pakistan cricket faces major troubles

Following Pakistan’s poor performance in the Champions Trophy, the board has made significant cuts to the fees of domestic cricket players. The National T20 League, starting on March 14, will see a drastic reduction in match fees. Previously, players received 40,000 rupees per match, but now they will get only 10,000 rupees. Reserve players will be given just 5,000 rupees.

According to leaked reports, along with match fee reductions, players will no longer stay in five-star or four-star hotels during tournaments. Instead, they will be accommodated in budget hotels. Air travel will also be restricted. Additionally, payments for players and umpires from the previous season are still pending. Under the Pakistan Cricket Board’s policy, former cricketers’ pensions are supposed to increase annually, but no such increment has been made this year. Pakistan’s performance in the Champions Trophy was far from what was expected, adding to the team’s ongoing struggles.
