Singh suffered a severe injury on August 22, 2006, when he was accidentally shot while traveling on the Kalka Shatabdi Express train. This unfortunate incident occurred as he was en route to join the national team, which was set to depart for the World Cup in Africa just two days later. The gunshot left him with significant injuries, nearly paralyzing him and confining him to a wheelchair for a duration of one year. At the time of the incident, he was only 20 years old.

Sandeep Singh’s determination to represent India at the international level paved the way for his epic comeback. He played as a full back and a specialist penalty shooter for the Indian National Hockey Team. His illustrious career is often called the greatest among the new generation of Indian hockey players. Sandeep Singh secured the highest goal count and earned the Man of the Tournament accolade during the 2009 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. He scored a total of 6 goals in the tournament.
