Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are going to face each other today at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium to start off the three match ODI Series in 2024. The game will start at 2:30 PM IST.
In their inaugural Test encounter, the Lankan Team secured a convincing 10-wicket victory over Afghanistan in Colombo. Despite the defeat, Afghanistan’s batsmen displayed marked improvement in the Test’s second innings, auguring well for the upcoming ODIs. Notably, their skilled opener, Ibrahim Zadran, rebounded from a duck in the first innings to craft a magnificent century. Additionally, Rahmat Shah, a dependable Afghan batsman, notched half-centuries in both innings, showcasing his consistency and resilience.
The bowling unit’s inexperience was evident during the recent match. Nonetheless, they are confident in their abilities to excel in the 50-over format, which they have played more frequently and achieved reasonable success in.
The Afghanistanis are gearing up for their first ODI since their noteworthy performance in the 50-over World Cup held last year in India. Out of nine matches, they secured victories in four, concluding sixth among the ten competing teams. Their encounter with Sri Lanka at the prestigious event ended with a convincing seven-wicket win in their favor.
