The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season will be crucial for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Last season, Ruturaj Gaikwad was the captain, while MS Dhoni guided the team from behind the scenes.
This year, CSK might not keep MS Dhoni as a player. Shocking, right? But, if he decides to retire, there’s a good chance he will become a coach or mentor.
Players CSK might keep in IPL 2025:
Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj Gaikwad had a mixed 2024 season. He scored 583 runs with the bat but his captaincy wasn’t as strong, and CSK didn’t make the playoffs. Despite this, CSK sees him as a future leader without Dhoni. They will likely keep him due to the big role he has already played.
Maheesh Pathirana
This young bowler from Sri Lanka has become a key player for CSK. Though he’s new, Matheesha Pathirana has shown he can win matches. CSK will probably want to keep this talent they helped develop.

Shivam Dube
Shivam Dube is another player CSK would like to invest in. He performed exceptionally well in the death overs last season. Given his good relationship with Dhoni, it’s likely he will be retained.
Ravindra Jadeja
With changes in leadership, Ravindra Jadeja’s experience will be very valuable. He is a core member of CSK and brings stability. Even though he has retired from T20 internationals, Jadeja will likely play in the IPL for another two or three years, and CSK plans to keep this all-rounder.
