Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the priciest acquisition on Day 2 of the IPL 2025 mega auction, with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) securing the veteran pacer for INR 10.75 crore. However, it was 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, purchased by Rajasthan Royals for INR 1.10 crore, who truly made history, drawing more attention than even Rishabh Pant’s record-breaking INR 27 crore deal with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

The second day of the auction also saw the end of an era, as David Warner, who had been a constant presence in the IPL since 2009 (apart from 2018 due to a ban), went unsold at the age of 38, having recently retired from international cricket. Another high-profile player, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, also failed to attract a bid. James Anderson’s hopes of playing in the IPL were dashed early, as he was overlooked during the auction process.

Day 1 had already set some major records, with Rishabh Pant emerging as the most expensive player in IPL history. Before Pant’s massive deal, Shreyas Iyer’s INR 26.75 crore bid was a record for a short time, before being surpassed by Pant’s deal. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) also surprised many by securing Venkatesh Iyer for INR 23.75 crore.

In another significant move, Faf du Plessis, who captained RCB for the past two seasons, was purchased by Delhi Capitals, effectively confirming that Virat Kohli is set to resume his leadership role at RCB.
