The recent plane crash in Ahmedabad has caused a delay in the unveiling of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy for the upcoming Test series between India and England. The tragic crash resulted in the death of 275 people. Earlier, this series was played for the Pataudi Trophy, named in honour of former Indian captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, but it has now been renamed as the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy (ATT). This decision to rename the trophy was made by the host England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

An official from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on condition of anonymity, said, “The unveiling of the ATT trophy, which was earlier scheduled for 14 June, has been delayed due to the recent accident in Ahmedabad. It has not been cancelled. We expect the trophy to be unveiled before the start of the series.”

More than 50 British citizens also lost their lives in the crash. The Air India flight was headed to London and crashed just minutes after takeoff. The new trophy is named in honour of two legendary cricketers from the two countries – England’s fast bowler James Anderson and Indian batting icon Sachin Tendulkar.

It has also been revealed that the BCCI has requested the ECB to establish a separate individual award in the name of Pataudi so that his connection with the series is preserved. According to sources, both Tendulkar and ICC Chairman Jay Shah want to keep the late captain’s name associated with the series in recognition of his contribution to Indian cricket.
