In the 5th ODI at Sabina Park in Kingston, Russell earned the Player of the Match title, contributing with both bat and ball by taking 4/35 to dismiss India for 251 in 47.1 overs.

His stellar performances extended to the 2016 T20 World Cup, where he earned recognition by being named in the ‘Team of the Tournament’ by the ICC, ESPNcricinfo, and Cricbuzz. Russell’s consistent form led to his inclusion in the West Indies’ squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. In a match against Australia, he achieved the distinction of becoming the fastest batsman, in terms of balls faced, to reach 1,000 runs in ODIs, achieving the feat in just 767 deliveries. Unfortunately, his tournament was cut short due to a knee injury in June 2019, and he was replaced by Sunil Ambris.

On 9 July 2021, during the first T20I against Australia, Russell demonstrated his batting prowess by scoring his maiden T20I half-century, contributing 51 off 28 balls to help West Indies post a total of 145 before being dismissed by Josh Hazlewood. Later in September 2021, he was named in the West Indies’ squad for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, continuing to be a key player in the team’s T20 endeavors.
