Dashing Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell described his departure from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as “beautiful” after the franchise retained only three players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, scheduled for November 24 and 25 in Jeddah. RCB kept Virat Kohli, Yash Dayal, and Rajat Patidar.

Maxwell, who joined RCB in 2021, became a key player in the middle order over the past four seasons, helping the franchise reach the playoffs three times. In his first comments since his exit, Maxwell shared that he had a constructive conversation with RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, and head coach Andy Flower.

“I got a call from Mo Bobat and Andy Flower, and we had a Zoom meeting where they explained the decision not to retain me,” Maxwell said on ESPNcricinfo’s Around the Wicket. “It was actually a really beautiful exit meeting, if you can call it that.”

“We ended up talking for about half an hour about the game and their strategy for the future. I was really happy with that,” added Maxwell, RCB’s fifth-highest run-scorer with 1266 runs from 52 matches.

Maxwell was not only a crucial batter for RCB but also provided depth in key moments. Some of his standout performances include a 77 off 44 balls against Rajasthan Royals and 78 off 49 against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2021.

While acknowledging his exit, Maxwell made it clear that he wouldn’t rule out a return to RCB if the franchise bids for him in the IPL 2025 mega auction. “I completely understand their direction, and they’ve gone with three core players to build around. I hope the overseas players can complement the locals. I wouldn’t say my journey at RCB is over; I’d certainly love to come back. It was a great franchise to play for, and I really enjoyed my time there,” Maxwell concluded.
