England batter Harry Brook has terminated his contract with Delhi Capitals ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is set to begin on March 22. As a result, he could face a two-year ban from playing in the tournament. This marks the second consecutive season in which the 26-year-old England cricketer has made himself unavailable for the IPL. Brook apologized to the franchise and its supporters for his decision.
Brook shared a statement on social media, saying, “I have made the very difficult decision to withdraw from the next IPL season. I unreservedly apologize to Delhi Capitals and their fans.” He further explained, “This is a crucial period for England cricket, and I want to be fully committed to preparing for the upcoming series.”

Brook emphasized the need to take time off after experiencing the busiest phase of his career so far. “I know not everyone will understand this, and I do not expect them to, but I have to do what I believe is right. Playing for my country is my priority, and my full focus is on that,” he added.
Brook had also withdrawn from the previous IPL season following the passing of his grandmother. As per the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regulations regarding the IPL, any overseas player who withdraws from the tournament after being picked in the auction—unless deemed unfit—can face a two-year ban from participating in the IPL.
According to a document BCCI shared with franchises last year, “Any (overseas) player who registers for the auction and, after being picked, declares themselves unavailable before the start of the season will be banned from participating in the IPL and IPL auctions for two seasons.”
