Pakistan Super League To Clash With IPL 2025 Due To Champions Trophy’s Schedule

Must read

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to overlap with the Indian Premier League (IPL) next season due to adjustments in the PSL’s schedule forced by a busy international calendar. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has indicated that the PSL might be held from April 10 to May 25 next year, while the last IPL season ran from March 22 to May 26. Typically, the PSL takes place in February and March, but Pakistan’s hosting of a tri-series, the Champions Trophy, and a tour by the West Indies necessitates this scheduling change.

Pakistan’s cricket season, both home and away, starts this month and will continue until April 2025. The PCB also announced a significant overhaul of monthly retainers for domestic players, who will be part of five elite teams participating in three new Champions tournaments. Around 150 players, distributed across five teams, will receive increased salaries in different categories. In Category 1, 40 players will receive PKR 550,000 per month, Category 2 will see 50 players earning PKR 400,000 per month, and Category 3 will have 60 players earning PKR 250,000 per month.

In comparison, domestic contracts for the 2023-24 season ranged from PKR 50,000 to PKR 300,000, depending on the category. Players will also benefit from increased match fees, with red-ball cricket fetching PKR 200,000 per match, 50-over games PKR 125,000, and T20 matches PKR 100,000. This is a substantial increase from the previous season’s match fees of PKR 80,000 for red-ball and PKR 40,000 for white-ball matches.
