The final match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 between India and New Zealand will be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on March 9. India secured their spot in the final by defeating Australia by 4 wickets in the semifinal, while New Zealand booked their place with a 50-run victory over South Africa in Lahore. Team India is considered the favorite to win the title, mainly because they have played all their matches in Dubai so far. However, India’s record against New Zealand in ICC knockout matches has not been impressive.

India Has Lost 3 Out of 4 ICC Knockout Matches Against New Zealand

India and New Zealand have faced each other four times in ICC knockout matches, with India winning just once and losing three times. Their first encounter in an ICC knockout game was the final of the 2000 Champions Trophy, where New Zealand emerged victorious.

In the 2019 ODI World Cup semifinal, India once again lost to New Zealand. The 2021 ICC World Test Championship final also saw New Zealand defeating India. However, India finally broke their losing streak in ICC knockout matches against New Zealand in the 2023 ODI World Cup semifinal, securing their first victory in such encounters.

India Reaches the Champions Trophy Final for the 5th Time

India has now reached the Champions Trophy final for the fifth time. In 2000, they lost to New Zealand, while in 2002, they were declared joint winners. Under MS Dhoni’s captaincy, India won the 2013 Champions Trophy final against England. In 2017, under Virat Kohli’s leadership, India reached the final but lost to Pakistan.

With the 2025 final against New Zealand, India will be looking to add another Champions Trophy title to their record.
