Last season’s runners-up, Sunrisers Hyderabad, have not had a good start to their IPL 2025 campaign. They are now set to face Gujarat Titans in a crucial encounter. While SRH will be looking to bounce back, Gujarat will aim to showcase their strength. Known for their aggressive batting in the IPL, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s attacking approach seems to be backfiring this season. Ahead of the clash with Gujarat Titans, SRH will need to introspect on their playing style.
Sunrisers Had a Power-Packed Start
Sunrisers Hyderabad began their season with a bang, scoring a record 286 runs in their first match. However, the aggressive approach didn’t work in the following games. In their next three matches, SRH managed scores of 190, 163, and 120 runs respectively – losing all three. They currently sit at the bottom of the points table (10th position), and it seems that even under World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins, the team is struggling. The Sunrisers have failed to find a balance between aggression and over-aggression, and most of their batsmen have gifted away their wickets.
Top Order Needs to Fire
The silver lining for SRH is that they will be playing their next match at home, where high scores have been common. If they are to recover from three consecutive defeats, top batters like Travis Head, Ishan Kishan, and Heinrich Klaasen will need to step up.
Bowling remains another area of concern. Except for young leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari, who has taken four wickets, no other bowler has looked threatening. Captain Pat Cummins has an economy rate of 12.30 runs per over, Adam Zampa’s is 11.75, and even the experienced Mohammed Shami has been expensive, conceding around 10 runs per over.
Buttler’s Return to Form Boosts Gujarat Titans
On the other hand, Gujarat Titans seem to have found their rhythm. Their morale will be high after a dominant win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their last game. Jos Buttler played a brilliant knock in that match, scoring a half-century. With Buttler, captain Shubman Gill, and B Sai Sudharsan at the top, Gujarat’s batting looks solid. All three have performed well so far, and fans will hope they continue their fine form.
